Lang and Pihl acknowledged the work of Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation

2. October 2008
Ministers Rein Lang and Jüri Pihl visited the Victims of Communism Memorial in Washington and met with the managers of the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation.

At the joint dinner the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation was represented by Lee Edwards, the Chairman, Ed Priola, the secretary-general, and Karl Altau, a member of the Board of the Foundation.

Lang and Pihl acknowledged the work of the Foundation in commemorating the victims of communism and emphasised that discrimination between the states and regimes that have committed crimes against humanity is unacceptable.

According to Lang, it is essential to present the activities of the Foundation and the planned virtual museum to public at large in Europe. “One of the possibilities is to introduce the activities of the Foundation and the virtual museum to the institutions of the European Union,” the Minister of Justice said.

Yesterday the ministers also met with the representatives of the campaign team of John McCain, the presidential nominee of the Republicans, and with David J. Kramer, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State of the US, to discuss issues relating to cooperation in judicial and law enforcement matters.
