The Design Law Treaty, which simplifies design registration on an international level, was adopted in Riyadh last week
Last Friday, the member states of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) adopted a design law treaty in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The treaty, resulting from over 20 years of negotiations, makes the protection of design solutions easier, faster, and more affordable. Its aim is to standardize the design registration process and provide designers with better protection worldwide.

Estonia and Quebec Sign a Statement of Intent to Develop Digital Cooperation
Today, the Minister of Justice and Digital Affairs Liisa Pakosta and the Deputy Minister for Cybersecurity and Digital Affairs of the Quebec region of Canada, Stéphane Le Bouyonnec, signed a statement of intent to cooperate in the development of secure data exchange, digital identity, and artificial intelligence at the Tallinn Digital Summit.

Liisa Pakosta and Valeryia Ionan: A Strong Digital State Ensures Independence and Democracy

Controversial Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive approved in the EU
The corporate sustainability due diligence directive (CSDDD) was approved at today's meeting of the Committee of Permanent Representatives of the European Union (COREPER). Estonia remained abstained, as the agreed solutions in the directive are not in line with Estonia's positions.

Estonia does not support the corporate sustainability due diligence directive 
Estonia considers the directive on corporate sustainability due diligence, which will be discussed today at the representatives committee COREPER, problematic. According to the Minister of Justice, Kalle Laanet, the main reason is that the rules resulting from the directive are unclear and it is not understandable what kind of obligations and the accompanying responsibility would fall to entrepreneurs.

Laanet: Europe must focus on nothing but supporting Ukraine in the war
According to Kalle Laanet, Minister of Justice of Estonia, the workload related to the initiatives of the European Commission is currently too much of a burden for countries like Estonia. Today he expressed this to Minister of Justice of Germany, Dr. Marco Buschmann.

Cross-border company migration is becoming safer
At the third reading, the Riigikogu adopted the act on the cross-border merger, division and conversion of companies registered in the European Union. If up until now only the cross-border merger of companies was possible, new possibilities are added in the form of cross-border division and conversion.  At the same time, control over cross-border company migration will become stricter and the conditions more specific.
